A teenage boy was found dead only a few days following being falsely accused of stealing the ashes of a dead infant during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has heard.

Heartbreaking Discovery

The young boy's mother and father found his body in his bedroom at his Flintshire home on 19 November 2021.

False Allegations Start

The investigation learned how his mother got a message on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a individual inquiring if Kai was her offspring. The communication stated: "Tell him thanks for breaking into my apartment."

In a statement read to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the news, asserting her infant's remains had been stolen in a break-in - a allegation which was false.

Law Enforcement Inquiry

An official inquiry from authorities later determined the alleged burglary complainant had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the items was never stolen in the beginning".

News coverage about the supposed taken remains attracted online comments, and although the teenager was not named in the posts, his parent said people "knew it was him".

The "online posts were really upsetting", she said.

Emotional Health Effect

She added that Kai had been diagnosed with mild attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that condition, other individuals' views really mattered to him.

"This must have affected him severely," she commented, "especially when this was untrue".

Kai was detained at home, but nothing was discovered. He was taken to a police station and later freed pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in contact, the inquest learned, but had not reached out to the family by the moment of his death.

Withdrawal and Worry

His mother said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like days".

When she talked to him about the supposed incident, she said her child told her he had entered the house because the woman who lived there had said he could use the bathroom anytime he needed, but refuted removing anything.

Digital Harassment

In a combined testimony between her and her husband, the mother said her son was being bullied digitally after the accusations.

The inquest heard that a young adult urged Kai to end his life.

She had no concerns on the evening before he passed away, explaining how she had heard him "chuckling and joking".

She portrayed him as a "caring, affectionate" young man, and said her "family is completely devastated".

He had been "obviously hiding his worries", she said, noting that he could not bear to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

School Reaction

The hearing received testimony from educational personnel at the local secondary school.

On November 8th, she "overheard some boys talking that the student had been detained and that was the first I heard".

"He told me... he'd was innocent," she added.

After the conversation, the educator said she rang the family's parents' landline and provided a message saying she had spoken to Kai about the allegations.

The court learned his family said they never receive that message.

Formal Finding

Senior investigator informed the inquest he would await reports regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with suspects with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a prevention of future deaths report.

Delivering a narrative conclusion, he said: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young child.

"Likely falsehoods were subsequently exaggerated and exaggerated through the medium of social media.

"During 11 November, he was questioned by the police and following his interview he was freed whilst investigations proceeded."

The coroner determined: "Exists no proof that the actions or failures of any agency caused or contributed to his passing and although it was the outcome of a personal action it is not possible to determine his purpose."
